Support Victims of the Myanmar Earthquake Through CRS

On March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake stuck central Myanmar, with its epicenter near the cities of Mandalay and Sagaing.  The tremors were felt across the country and even reached Thailand.   Hospitals in affected regions are overwhelmed and communications and transport routes have been severely disrupted.  Thousands of people are sleeping in the open, fearful of aftershocks and unable to return to damaged homes.

CRS hopes to support efforts that assist families in the affected areas of Mandalay, Sagaing, and Bago Region, as well as Shan and Kayin states.   This may include:

  • Food:  Supporting families to meet immediate needs through cooked food and/or cash assistance to purchase food in the local markets.

  • Safe Shelter: Supporting displaced families with emergency shelter supplies, including tarps, bedding and hygiene kits, as well as infrastructure support for collective shelters to ensure safety and sanitation.

  • Essential Supplies: Providing essential living supplies to help families meet their basic daily needs.

  • Water and Sanitation: Providing clean water and sanitation to ensure families have access to drinking water. Support will be provided for people living in displaced environments or communal shelters, and people who are eventually returning home to damaged infrastructure.

  • Market Recovery:  Supporting local market systems and businesses to recover, repair critical infrastructure and restock essential household and construction items to increase families' access to basic goods and services.

Your support will be lifesaving for communities who were already living in crisis.

Before the earthquake, an estimated 18.6 million people were in need of humanitarian assistance as families were experiencing increasing shortages of food, clean water, limited access to health care and widespread malnutrition. With many families' resources and coping skills stretched thin at a time of immense loss, your gift can create miracles. Please help today — make a life saving gift.
